Jacobsen E-PlexII Electric Battery Powered Greens Mower
For those people out there that would like to have an electric riding greens mower, Jacobsen has the new E-PlexII . The E-PlexII is a battery powered, not gas or diesel powered unit. The electric E-PlexII uses a 48 volt battery pack.
The electric greens mower puts out 3.5 hp (2.6K w) to the traction wheels. This seems a little week if you ask me but if you want to go green I guess you can live with this.
The Reel Drives has 0.5 hp (2.6 Kw) powering them.
Feel Free to leave some feed back about the Power of the E-PlexII.
There is one thing different about the E-PlexII from most greens mowers and that is the hydraulic system. It does not have a hydraulic system, thats right it does not have hydraulics which means no messy fluids to deal with or leak out onto the ground. WOW
Everything on the E-PlexII is completely electric.
The E-PlexII has three 22 in (.56 m) reels making a total cut of 62 in (1.6 m).
Depending on the turf conditions and the bed knife that is installed it can cut from a height of 0.62 in (1.6 mm) up to 0.438 in (11.1 mm).
The out side reels on the E-PlexII swings out to make servicing easy.
The reels can be easily removed by pulling a few pins (Flash Attach System).
The E-PlexII comes with an on board computer that monitors everything. This makes diagnosing electrical problems a lot easier.
The controls for the mower are on the right hand side of the operator put every thing at your finger tips. This cuts down the fatigue on the operator considerable.
The mowing speed is about 3-4 mph ( 4.8-6.4 km/h) which is good. Transport Top Speed is 7.5 mph (12 km/h) and Reverse Speed 3.8 mph (6 km/h).
The E-PlexII is pretty heavy at 1,464 lbs (644 kg) which is heaver than the other greens mowers Jacobsen offers including their diesel units. The E-PlexII is 93 in (2.4 m) front to back, stands 55 in (1.4 m) tall, has a wheel base of 54 in (1.4 m) and is 75 in (1.9 m) wide.
To round up this article I guess I would have to say the E-PlexII is OK if you really want to put “ Going Green” as your main priority. I personally would stay with the gas or diesel models. I believe that the E-PlexII would be under powered but thats my opinion.
I don’t know how long the battery pack would last between charges ether. Sometimes those greens are a long ways from the maintenance shop at 5:30 or 6:00 am. I will have to say the mower is very quite!
